Chelsea reportedly want to offload their goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer.

According to ESPN, there is a desire from the Blues to sell the £150,000-a-week player at the end of the season.

It is understood the London club hope to recoup as much as possible from his £71million transfer fee, albeit his time at Stamford Bridge has been very rocky to damage his reputation.

The report explains Kepa’s worked hard in training to really improve his goalkeeping, making him more aggressive and front-footed to control his box. However, the 27-year-old will be shown the exit doors if the right suitor can be found.

Kepa, linked with Newcastle United in March, is a player that doesn’t get too much game time. He’s received transfer links this year to Atletico Madrid, too.

The Spanish shot-stopper’s kept eight clean sheets in 15 Chelsea appearances this campaign, but spends most matches on the bench as the understudy to number one goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

It does feel very logical for him to move on before next season. A new owner will need to complete a takeover first, though.

In truth, it’s not really worked for the Blues when they’ve gone out and spent £50million-plus on players.

There’s a lot of pressure on individuals when they arrive for gigantic transfer fees, especially when you’re in a specialist position like goalkeeper.

Some of Chelsea’s greatest transfers in the past couple of decades have been signing players in the mid-range bracket.

It’s going to be intriguing to see what approach Thomas Tuchel takes if he’s given a chequebook by the next owners to sign a few players in one window.
