Report: Chelsea the favourites to sign midfielder who has already broken his own scoring record this season

Reports from Italy have claimed that Chelsea are the favourites to sign Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.

According to La Repubblica, the Blues are the most likely side to sign the Italian if he chooses to leave the Serie A side at the end of the season.

Chelsea have been widely reported to be interested in investing in the midfield area either in January or when the season ends.

It was originally believed that this was due to the potential of an exodus in the position at Stamford Bridge.

Reports for a long time have claimed that the pairing of N’golo Kante and Jorginho would be leaving the club at the end of the season when their current contracts expire.

Chelsea favourites for Barella

However, recent claims have suggested that both players are now a lot closer to staying with the Blues after positive discussions.

Nevertheless, rumours have not gone away that suggest they are ready for heavy investment.

They have been strongly linked with a move for Benfica player Enzo Fernandez, who is highly-touted especially after his performances at the World Cup.

Reports have recently claimed that the Blues are looking to secure a deal for his services in January, despite the Portuguese side’s hesitance.

However, links to a midfielder have not been limited to Fernandez. La Repubblica have claimed that they are the most likely side to sign Barella right now too.

There have also rumours that they will look to sign one of England’s best midfield options.

During the World Cup especially, the Blues were linked to both Jude Bellginham and Declan Rice, with the former using the tournament to prove to the very few remaining doubters that he has the ability to perform on the biggest stage.
