Chelsea will only sell Conor Gallagher to Newcastle United today instead of loaning him out.

According to the Telegraph, the Blues are only willing to do business with Newcastle in regards to the midfielder if they accept to buy him outright.

The Magpies have been heavily linked with a move for Gallagher towards the end of the transfer window.

Despite initial suggestions that Chelsea were keen to keep hold of their academy graduate, the feeling has seemingly changed somewhat.

With deals for Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo still potentially on the cards, Todd Boehly might want to shift some players to make room in the squad for one, or even two, new arrivals.

Gallagher could well be sacrificed for Fernandez or Caicedo, especially as there is serious interest from around the Premier League.

Newcastle are apparently eager to add the England international to their ranks, but might find Chelsea difficult to deal with.

The Telegraph claim that a transfer to Tyneside is unlikely at this stage, due to the insistence from Stamford Bridge that Gallagher must be bought permanently, not loaned.

They are reportedly asking for upwards of £50m to let the 22-year-old leave, particularly if it means joining a perceived rival for the European places.

Boehly will not want to aid a team that is basically taking Chelsea’s usual place in the Champions League spots.

But it’s been said that Gallagher wants top-six football, so perhaps this deal is not over just yet…
