Reports have claimed that Chelsea are unlikely to sign Declan Rice from West Ham this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, the signing of Enzo Fernandez leaves their little possibility for them to involve themselves in the upcoming transfer saga that the England international will bring.

Fernandez took the club near enough all of January to sign, with them locked in fierce negotiations with Benfica especially at the end of the transfer window.

However, after his debut, the 22-year-old is already showing signs that he may be worth the money and attention afforded to him.

With just a solitary training session under his belt, he was Chelsea’s best player against Fulham last Friday, winning the ball back with ease on multiple occasions.

He was also missing a number of potential first team partners. With Jorginho out the door, there was also no Mateo Kovacic, Denis Zakaria and N’golo Kante.

Rice unlikely to join Chelsea

With the future of none of the trio particularly secure at Stamford Bridge, there is a real chance that another midfielder is signed to partner Fernandez in the long run.

The World Cup winner has already commented on just how good Rice is, while has also been described as ‘exceptional’ by Pep Guardiola.

However, the Daily Mail have claimed that it is unlikely the pair play together in the near future.

It is expected that the Blues will return for Moises Caicedo at the end of the season, after making attempts to sign him last month.

He was also of interest to Arsenal, however they also fell foul of tough negotiation tactics from Brighton.

With the 21-year-old making it public knowledge that a move to either London side would be a dream of his, there is a massive chance that they both return in an attempt to sign him when the season comes to an end.
