Reports suggest that Graham Potter has been a long-term admirer of striker David Datro Fofana.
According to the Evening Standard, the Blues are close to confirming the signing of the Ivorian as their first acquisition under the new manager.
There has been a recent requirement to enter the market for a striker, after the Blues lost one of their few options to injury.

When Armando Broja went down screaming in agony against Aston Villa, everyone feared the worst as he was forced off on a stretcher.
It has now been confirmed that the knee injury he has suffered is likely to see him miss the rest of the season.
With Christopher Nkunku reportedly set to join at the end of the campaign, this leaves Chelsea in a tough situation. They need reinforcements for this season, but it is unclear how important a role they will play going forwards.
Potter admirer of Fofana
This is potentially behind their interest in Fofana, with him in-form in the Norwegian league with Molde.
With his pace a real asset, he has quickly become an international level striker, scoring plenty of goals domestically and in the Conference League.
While the name may have come from nowhere as far as Chelsea fans are concerned, the Evening Standard have reported that Potter has known about him for a while since his time at Brighton.

It has been claimed that the Seagulls were pushing to sign the striker, however it looks as if Chelsea will be a pain in their side again.
It remains unclear as to whether Fofana will be a member of the first team this season, or if he is signed for the future and will be loaned out as soon as he arrives.
If he does depart again, expect the Blues to sign another striker next month too.
