Leeds United are reportedly in talks to sign Atletico Madrid’s Matheus Cunha, after recent claims that he’s been offered to Chelsea.

The Evening Standard claimed last week that Chelsea have been given the chance to sign Cunha.

Meanwhile, Goal reported that Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa are interested in a deal to sign Atletico’s 23-year-old striker in the January transfer window.

Linked with a £42million move to Manchester United in the summer (talkSPORT), Cunha is now heavily linked with a potential switch to England for the first time in his career.

The Brazilian centre-forward does have decent experience in Atletico colours. Also, he did well in Germany with RB Leipzig and Hertha Berlin.

Leeds in talks to sign Cunha

According to Goal, Leeds are actively in talks with Cunha’s agent to see if a January deal is on the cards.

The report names Arsenal as another Premier League side with the La Liga attacker on their radar, albeit their interest is less advanced than the Leeds approach.

In our view, Chelsea don’t need to get themselves involved in what looks like being a mad transfer race for Cunha’s signature.

He’s got talent with pace and skill, so you can see why teams want him.

However, he’s never been a prolific scorer in his career to date. For example, he’s not actually scored in 17 Atletico appearances so far this season.

Chelsea’s criteria when looking to bring in a new frontman should be focused around his goal record and where Graham Potter pictures using him.
