Mauricio Pochettino has given the thumbs up to Chelsea for them to sign Inter Milan’s Andre Onana this summer, according to reports.

Chelsea fans are currently waiting for Mauricio Pochettino, 51, to be appointed as the club’s next permanent manager. All the speculation in the media suggests he’ll be in the manager’s dugout at Stamford Bridge next season.

Sky Sports claimed on Tuesday that Pochettino is getting closer to landing the Chelsea job and he could be formally announced in the next week.

If the Argentine coach does arrive, we can’t wait to see how he reshapes this huge Blues squad.

Apparently, he’s already told the Blues hierarchy to go and sign him a new goalkeeper.

Inter Milan keeper Andre Onana, who’s having a strong season at the San Siro, has been linked recently as a Blues target.

90min claimed this week that Chelsea have told Inter they’re willing to sign 27-year-old goalkeeper Onana from them.

Now, Calciomercato reports that Pochettino has given his approval for Chelsea to sign Onana.

Gazzetta claimed in March that Onana is valued at around €40million (£35million) by Inter ahead of the summer transfer window.

Onana is one of the top goalkeepers in Serie A right now. He’s played a key role in Inter reaching this season’s Champions League semi-finals, too.

Fellow Serie A shot-stopper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, who plays for Torino, described Onana as “excellent” earlier this campaign (L’Interista).

In our view, Chelsea need to upgrade on Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer.

On their day, Mendy and Kepa can be brilliant goalkeepers. We believe it’s an area of the pitch that can be improved moving into next season, though.
