Reports have claimed that Thomas Tuchel is now trying to sign Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez for Bayern Munich.

According to Sport1, the Bundesliga champions are set to fight Borussia Dortmund for a deal for the Mexican this summer.

Chelsea fans will be well aware of Alvarez after the deadline day links last summer that the Blues had to the 25-year-old.

The manager at the time reportedly thought the club required another midfielder after what had been a prolific transfer window across the board.

Their interest in the signing completely distracted the Mexico international, who even decided not to turn up to training as he looked to force through a move to Stamford Bridge.

However, this did not come to fruition, and instead Chelsea brought in Denis Zakaria on loan from Juventus.

Despite showing plenty of promise, particularly around the time of the World Cup, it has been a long time since the Switzerland international has been seen at Stamford Bridge.

Now though, it is over in Germany where Tuchel is again looking to sign Alvarez, after a disappointing season in Holland for his team, Ajax.

A midfielder is a figure which is reportedly on the shortlist put together by prospective new manager Mauricio Pochettino of who he believes the Blues need to bring in this summer in order to compete again.

The aim is to find a long-term partner for club-record signing Enzo Fernandez, who the club have been very impressed by since he came in back in January.

A number of Premier League stars have been linked with the move. Recently relegated Southampton will be prepared to lose Romeo Lavia this summer, a player Chelsea have tried to sign in the past despite only moving originally last summer.
