Reports have claimed that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is already planning to complete the signings of Josko Gvardiol and Edson Alvarez.
According to The Athletic, the American is looking to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City in securing deals for players by doing the groundwork before the window opens.
The Blues went through one of the most interesting transfer windows in club football history this summer, with it being Boehly’s first since becoming owner.

With many key figures at the club leaving as part of the new regime coming to town, this left the man with no real experience of running a football club the task of temporarily taking the reins on transfers.
While this saw the club spend the most in football history in one individual window, it was certainly not without it’s mishaps.

The club looked in the prime position to sign Raphinha from Leeds and Jules Kounde from Sevilla to name only two. Whether it was down to the owners or not, a lack of experience in the market certainly played a part in them both ending up at Barcelona.
Now, The Athletic have claimed they are looking to avoid that in the future by hiring the right people behind the scenes to help get deals over the line early.

This is the case in their attempts to sign Gvardiol and Alvarez, both players the club missed out on late in the window.
In their early work to sign the Leipzig defender, they are close to triggering his release clause which will see them pay a lot less than they would have done had a deal been accepted back in the summer.
With reports of an agreement already being reached over Christopher Nkunku, also from Leipzig, their plan may already be coming together.
