Chelsea fans haven’t been able to keep their eyes off the summer transfer window, and the latest excitement has seen them linked again with Brentford striker Ivan Toney on Tuesday.

There’s been a lot of speculation in the last few months about the Blues bringing a new centre-forward to Stamford Bridge. With just three days left in the window, it looks like Enzo Maresca’s side have stepped up their interest in Premier League frontman Ivan Toney.

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has reported via X that Chelsea have made a move to sign Brentford’s Toney.

This comes after The Sun claimed earlier this month that Chelsea could make a late swoop for £45m-rated star Toney, who’s someone that Brentford are actively trying to sell.

Ivan Toney wages if he joins Chelsea

Sky’s Kaveh Solhekol has further suggested that Toney’s likely to join Chelsea on a base deal worth between £60,000-a-week and £70,000-a-week if the transfer happens.

He told Sky Sports: “We’ve talked in depth about how Chelsea are trying to slash their wage bill. They’re not interested in signing players who are going to be earning £200,000-a-week/£300,000-a-week. They’ve got a new wage structure.

“The average wage of their new signing is between £60,000-a-week and £70,000-a-week. That is the base wage before you add in bonuses.

“I think there is a feeling that Ivan Toney is willing to fit into that wage structure. Also, he’s coming from a club like Brentford who are not famed for paying massive wages.”

Ivan Toney would be a very smart transfer

For certain, this deal should get a massive tick by it if Chelsea get it over the line in the next few days.

Toney, who’s currently aged 28, is in his prime years and the ready-made article. Blues fans have been crying out for the club to sign a No.9 with pedigree and experience, which is exactly what the Brentford ace provides.

He’s scored 36 goals in 85 Premier League appearances, which has come later in his career after conquering the lower leagues.

There may be some supporters that doubt whether he can step up into a high-pressured environment like Chelsea, but the way he’s played in an England shirt on the international stage suggests that shouldn’t be an issue.
