Some Chelsea figures are arguing to sell £45m player in January, Tottenham would be interested

There’s some at Chelsea putting forward an argument to sell one of their key starters from this season.

That is according to a report from The Daily Mail.

Conor Gallagher, who’s been a rare positive in a frustrating campaign so far, is the player that may be on the chopping block ahead of the January transfer window.

Speaking via talkSPORT this week, Perry Groves said that Gallagher has been Chelsea’s only consistent player this season.

Does the 23-year-old academy graduate have a long-term future at Stamford Bridge, though?

Chelsea considering sale

The Daily Mail claims that Chelsea are prepared to listen to offers for Gallagher when next month’s January window opens. If they sell the England international, it will raise funds to help Mauricio Pochettino strengthen other areas of the Blues squad.

It is explained that the central midfielder’s still yet to negotiate a new contract on a deal that expires in 2025, so there could be a ‘shock’ exit from the club midway through this season.

The report says that some figures at Chelsea are arguing the case to sell Gallagher because it will help comply with Premier League spending rules. In fact, they are close to breaching Profit & Sustainability Rules, so they may need to sell players before bringing in new faces.

In addition, Tottenham would be interested in signing Gallagher again if he becomes available.

The report notes that Spurs and West Ham discussed a move to sign the Chelsea star back in the summer, but both refused to meet a £45million price tag.

We would be a little stunned if Gallagher does leave Chelsea in the New Year, but fans will know with this club to expect the unexpected.

He’s been a mainstay in the starting line-up and strong performer since Pochettino took charge as head coach in the summer.

Well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano stated in his Substack column recently that it will still take some time before Chelsea and Gallagher come to an agreement over a new deal.

We’re now concerned that there’s members within the club that are suggesting selling their box-to-box midfielder, who’s pure profit on the books following his rise from the academy system to the first team.
