There’s a new realistic suitor now in for Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez as Real Madrid stall

The situation surrounding Enzo Fernandez has been consistent this summer. Real Madrid are interested in the Chelsea midfielder, but his price tag is considered too steep by Jose Mourinho’s men.

For that reason, the biggest likelihood is that Fernandez remains at Chelsea this summer, despite all the noise his agent, Javier Pastore, is attempting to make. Fernandez’s camp believe he will join Madrid.

But while Chelsea are requesting as much as £120m for Fernandez, Madrid are going to struggle to afford the World Cup winner. Especially given Mourinho’s men have already made four big-name signings.

One of which is, of course, Marc Cucurella. Cucurella has expressed how much he’d like Fernandez to join him, but nothing has materialised yet. Now, with Madrid stalling, a new suitor has emerged for Fernandez.

Real Madrid no longer the only club interested in Fernandez

Given Fernandez’s price tag, Madrid have him on their list, but he’s said to be one of a few options. With Madrid stalling, Man City and PSG have been loosely linked ever since he flirted with Madrid in March.

However, a new suitor has emerged and it is a realistic one. A club that often signs players from Chelsea and did so even last summer, in Noni Madueke. Gianluigi Longari claims Arsenal could now sign him.

The transfer expert posted on X: “The Enzo Fernandez topic remains open as he pushes to leave Chelsea. Real Madrid is the first option, but they must make a sacrifice to present an offer to the Blues.

“In the Premier League, Manchester City and Arsenal are gathering information on the Argentine,” the reporter claims, with Mikel Arteta’s side clearly a realistic candidate having just won the Premier League.

Enzo Fernandez would be Arsenal’s record buy, but only just

The Arsenal-Chelsea connection does not end at Madueke. Currently in the Gunners squad, there is Kepa Arrizabalaga and Kai Havertz too, who scored the winner for Chelsea in the 2021 Champions League win.

Another is former Chelsea academy product Declan Rice, who remains Arsenal’s record transfer at a huge fee of £105m. Should Arsenal sign Fernandez, it would see the Argentina star replace Rice at the top.

Typical that Arsenal’s midfield would have such a strong Chelsea link. Whether the Gunners are willing to pay such an enormous fee remains to be seen. Arsenal have already splashed out to sign Piero Hincapie.

The Ecuador star has cost the Gunners north of £50m, having spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Arsenal. The Gunners may have to cash in on one or two players before they are able to afford Fernandez.
