There is now a strong chance of Conor Gallagher leaving Chelsea before Friday’s transfer deadline.

That is according to the Guardian.

So, what is the latest on Conor Gallagher at Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – according to the Telegraph – Tottenham have been encouraged to make a late move for the England international after Chelsea signed Cole Palmer from Manchester City for £45m.

Now, the Guardian believe there is a strong chance of the £50,000-a-week man leaving Stamford Bridge before Friday’s transfer deadline.

It is said that Mauricio Pochettino rates Gallagher highly, and the Chelsea No.23 himself is not in any rush to leave west London.

The Argentine has started Gallagher in every single game so far this season, even captaining him against AFC Wimbledon, so he clearly admires what the Epsom-born midfielder brings to the side.

However, those in the boardroom at Stamford Bridge are ready to sell the 23-year-old for the right price, as he only has two years remaining on his contract.

Chelsea value Gallagher at £50m, and rejected a £40m bid from West Ham earlier this summer before the Hammers signed James Ward-Prowse.

Gallagher leaving Chelsea may depend on Højbjerg

While Spurs have money to spend following the departure of Harry Kane, a move for Gallagher may hinge on Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

The Guardian believe the Denmark international is up for sale at Tottenham, with Atlético Madrid and Manchester United interested in his services.

Should a move materialise for Højbjerg, then Ange Postecoglou seems likely to bid for Gallagher as a preferred replacement.

The Chelsea academy graduate is able to operate as a No.8 or in a No.10 role, and his energetic style would suit the 58-year-old’s playing style perfectly.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Gallagher could be a Tottenham player by the end of the week.
