Tottenham Hotspur do not want to get into a transfer battle with Chelsea over the summer.

Tottenham are keen on Brentford striker Ivan Toney and may be willing to make a move for the 27-year-old if Chelsea and Arsenal end their interest in him, according to GiveMeSport.

The outlet claims that Spurs are reluctant to get into a bidding war with their two London rivals over Toney’s signature and want him for £60m or less.

It was claimed in November by Sky Sports that Brentford valued Toney at £100m, but they are never going to get that for him with his contract expiring next summer.

Whatever his value is, Fabrizio Romano does not think Chelsea will try to sign the England international.

Tottenham do not want bidding war with Chelsea

Spurs will know that Chelsea can blow them out of the water in the race for Toney and probably do not want to get caught up in all of that.

It makes sense, then, for them to hold back and wait to see what happens before making a move for him.

Chelsea’s interest may not actually be something that they have to worry about, though, with the Blues seemingly focusing on other centre-forwards.

Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres, for example, is one striker who Chelsea are being heavily linked with right now as opposed to Toney.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, the 25-year-old has a lot of admirers at Stamford Bridge.

Toney, who has proven himself in the Premier League, may be the safer option. However, Gyokeres’ goal record in Portugal this season cannot be overlooked.

The Sweden international has netted 32 times in 36 appearances, which is really impressive.

Whether it is Toney or Gyokeres, with Nicolas Jackson being the only natural centre-forward in Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad right now, Chelsea need to sign a new striker in the summer.
