‘Very good chance’: David Ornstein shares the signing Chelsea are now likely to make in January

Chelsea are pretty likely to sign a new centre-forward in the January transfer window.

That is according to well-respected journalist David Ornstein.

Chelsea fans have had sleepless night over the years regarding the No 9 position at Stamford Bridge, with so many high-profile stars struggling to fill the void left by Diego Costa and Didier Drogba.

Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja, both 22, are the current Blues attackers in a position to fight it out for the starting striker position.

However, there’s speculation that Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino could move in the New Year to add extra firepower.

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein indicates that the Blues may try bolster their forward options midway through the season.

When asked if Chelsea will sign a striker in January, Ornstein told The Athletic: “There is a very good chance of this happening. They have Jackson and Broja, so let’s see how they both do. But it would not surprise me if Chelsea recruit another top striker.”

Well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano recently claimed on YouTube that Pochettino will now have power and a big say in Chelsea’s transfer activity.

So, will he demand the arrival of a new frontman in January?

TEAMtalk previously reported that Pochettino has identified Brentford’s Ivan Toney as a centre-forward that he wants to work with at Chelsea.

We’re intrigued to see if Jackson or Broja can do enough from now until January to nail down a position in the starting XI, though.

The final outcome must be Chelsea owning a striker which pushes for 20-goals per season!
