What Christopher Nkunku’s advisors are really worried Chelsea will do with their client

Christopher Nkunku’s future at Chelsea is looking extremely bleak right now.

Even though Christopher Nkunku is still under contract at Chelsea until 2029, there’s widespread speculation about his potential transfer exit.

Reports in March claimed that Nkunku is ‘increasingly likely’ to leave Chelsea when the summer transfer window comes around at the end of the season.

The fact that the 27-year-old attacker was completely left out of the matchday squad for Sunday’s 2-1 away win over Fulham in the Premier League is alarming in itself. Maresca omitted Nkunku against Fulham because of a “technical decision”.

The Frenchman has contributed with a decent amount of goals this campaign, but the reality is he can’t find his way into the best XI because the No 10 position is blocked by Cole Palmer.

Christopher Nkunku’s advisors worry that Chelsea will value their client too highly

According to The Sun, Nkunku knows that his Chelsea career is coming to a close. Apparently, the forward is now waiting patiently for the club to try find him a fresh move in the summer.

It is understood that there’s no fallout between Maresca and Nkunku, but the player is leaving the ball in Chelsea’s court to sort his transfer switch.

The report adds that the ‘only worry’ for Nkunku and his advisors is that Chelsea will still demand a high transfer price for him.

It cost the Blues a £52m fee to sign Nkunku from RB Leipzig a couple of years ago. Even though he’s not lit it up in West London, he’s still coming to his prime years and is on a long-term deal.

It’s been claimed that Chelsea will hold out for £35m for Nkunku’s sale and that he’d ideally like a return to the German Bundesliga.

Nkunku was interested in joining Bayern Munich in January, as reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano via X. If he goes back to the Bundesliga, we can picture him picking up where he left off by scoring plenty of goals.

What Enzo Maresca said about Christopher Nkunku last summer

Ahead of the 2024/25 season, many felt that Nkunku could turn things around and grow into a talisman for the Chelsea side. Instead, the writing may be on the wall for his future at the club.

Interestingly, the attacker was superb for the Blues last summer during the team’s pre-season.

Speaking in August 2024, Maresca raved about Nkunku and explained the different ways he could use him. The head coach said:  “I knew Nkunku before I joined and I love him. He can play in the pocket, as a nine and winger. He’s a very good fit for this system.”

While it’s true that Maresca has played Nkunku in a variety of different forward roles this season, it’s obvious that he finds it a lot more difficult as a central striker or a winger.
