Chelsea could reportedly yet make a last minute move on deadline day to sign a “world class” striker.
The Blues fanbase are patiently waiting to see if the club signs a new No 9 before the summer transfer window closes on Friday night.
It was recently claimed by The Guardian that Enzo Maresca wants Chelsea to sign a forward and a defender before the close of the window. So, will the head coach get his wish in the next few hours?
Brentford frontman Ivan Toney, 28, is one of the attackers strongly linked with a potential switch to Stamford Bridge
However, Sky Sports’ Paul Gilmour claimed Toney is set for a medical with Al-Ahli after the Saudi Pro League club agreed a £40m deal with Brentford for his signature on deadline day.

Don’t rule out late Chelsea move for Ivan Toney
Despite the speculation that Brentford’s Toney is set to join Al-Ahli, there’s now claims that Chelsea could yet try to hijack the move in the final moments.
Sky journalist Kaveh Solhekol reports that he’s had a phone call from a source late on deadline day, and it’s been explained to him that Chelsea may not be completely out of the race for Toney.
Solhekol said on Sky Sports News (5:03pm, 30 August): “I have just been on the phone to someone who said to me, ‘Kaveh, don’t rule out Chelsea making a late move for Ivan Toney’. Yes, we know a deal has been agree with Al Alhi, yes, we know he is having a medical, but that medical is in London, so Chelsea potentially could go back in for him.
“Two days ago I was told that Chelsea had made a move, I was told about how he would fit in at Stamford Bridge, what a great goalscoring record he has, and Chelsea were very, very keen on signing him, but then the information we were getting is no, downplay the links with Chelsea because it looks like he is going to Saudi Arabia.
“But as I said, a few minutes ago, I don’t want to be a hostage to fortune, I am not saying Ivan Toney is coming to Chelsea at all, but based on one phone call and one piece of information I have received, don’t totally rule it out, but the most likely arrival Jadon Sancho.”
Ivan Toney would be great for Chelsea
It sounds like Chelsea have lost out on the race to sign Toney, but supporters have been given a glimmer of hope.
Toney, who was described as “world class” by Thomas Frank via TNT Sports last season, ticks so many boxes as the kind of striker that Chelsea needs. The Brentford ace has proven he can score goals in the Premier League, plus he’s coming into his prime at the age of 28.
If Toney does end up moving to Saudi Arabia, it would be a real shame to see him leave England’s top division.
