Chelsea want to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen before the transfer window closes, but the club’s sporting directors have run into a bit of an issue.

Chelsea‘s need for an elite centre-forward was on display once again in their 2-0 defeat against Manchester City over the weekend.

The Blues had some good opportunities during the game, but Nicolas Jackson failed to convert the chances that fell his way.

Jackson has since been criticised by Craig Burley following that match, with the former Chelsea midfielder questioning the striker’s decision-making.

Why Chelsea are yet to agree a deal with Napoli for Victor Osimhen

Chelsea reignited their interest in Osimhen not too long ago after it had cooled, but a deal still seems to be quite far off.

According to the Daily Mirror, while Chelsea are keen on bringing Osimhen in, the club’s two sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, need to know that they can move players on first before agreeing a deal to sign the 25-year-old.

The Blues have quite a few players who are on huge wages and not wanted at the club, which includes Romelu Lukaku.

Ironically, Lukaku is a target for Napoli, but talk of a swap deal involving the Belgian and Osimhen has gone quiet.

Joao Felix could be Chelsea’s last attacking signing this summer

There is obviously no guarantee that Chelsea will sign Osimhen before the end of the month, then.

It means Joao Felix may be the last offensive arrival at Stamford Bridge during this transfer window. The 24-year-old is set to return to west London and will offer a lot of versatility to the Blues.

Felix can play behind the striker, out wide and even as the No.9. As a skilful and technical forward, a lot of Chelsea fans will be excited to see him come back to the club.

However, especially after the City game, you cannot help but feel that Enzo Maresca needs a more natural centre-forward like Osimhen more than anything else.
