The transfer rumour mill has already linked Chelsea with some big names ahead of the summer, including Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.

Aston Villa and England star Morgan Rogers, 22, has enjoyed a phenomenal individual season for his club.

As a result, the creative attacking midfielder has been linked as a potential Chelsea target.

Reports in April claimed that Chelsea are targeting Morgan Rogers after a stunning campaign in Villa colours. Apparently, Joe Shields is driving the interest in Morgan Rogers, who is Chelsea’s co-director of recruitment and talent.

Chelsea would use Morgan Rogers on the left

Respected journalist Simon Phillips reports via Substack that Chelsea are ‘seriously considering’ a move for Villa star Rogers this summer.

It is understood that the Blues are ‘big’ on signing the versatile 22-year-old attacking midfielder.

Phillips explains that Rogers would be targeted for the left wing role at Chelsea as well as being a good option to play centrally.

In addition, Villa are currently asking for too much to sell their rising star, but there’s a feeling they may need to drop their asking price to help comply with PSR rules. Even though ‘nothing has advanced’ with Rogers to Chelsea, he’s firmly in the club’s sights.

Rogers has proven he can play anywhere across the attack. Chelsea’s idea to use him on the left makes sense when you look at the profiles in the Blues squad, though.

Aston Villa want to keep hold of Morgan Rogers, which is no surprise because he’s a key figure in Unai Emery’s XI. Let’s wait and see if Chelsea decide to ramp up their interest any further, though.

Chelsea options at left wing next season

It does look like the Blues may need to recruit a new option to play on the left wing next season.

While we prefer Villa talisman Rogers in a No. 10 position, he wouldn’t dislodge close friend Cole Palmer in the Chelsea XI. Therefore, he could be a fascinating option as a left-winger who drifts centrally if he ends up at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea may opt out of buying Jadon Sancho on a permanent basis after his season-long loan with them this year. If he exits, it would leave Maresca short of options, especially as Mykhailo Mudryk is still unavailable.

Blues forward Noni Madueke doesn’t enjoy playing on the left wing, but he’s definitely looked a threat in the role during recent games.

Another alternative would be to give Chelsea youngster Tyrique George more minutes next season in his preferred role on the left wing.
