Why Chelsea are confident of receiving £40m for Alejandro Garnacho despite ‘disastrous’ season

It has emerged that Chelsea are willing to listen to offers for Blues winger Alejandro Garnacho this summer, just one year after the Blues paid a whopping £40m to sign him from Man United.

It was questioned at the time when Chelsea spent £40m to sign Argentina international Garnacho. There were question marks over his attitude, his body language, and whether he was actually worth such a fee.

A year later, Chelsea want to sell Garnacho this summer. The Blues want rid of him, and are not even entertaining a loan. They want Garnacho out the door after a disappointing first season in West London.

But realistically, what kind of fee are Chelsea going to get for Garnacho? The fact that Chelsea are looking to move Garnacho on already proves that they shouldn’t have signed him in the first place last summer.

Chelsea are confident they can receive £40m Garnacho fee

The 22-year-old managed to feature in just 24 of Chelsea’s 38 Premier League games last season, and scored just one goal for the Blues. The winger only managed four assists, which, for £40m, is not enough.

Chelsea, though, believe they can rake back the entire fee they spent to sign him last summer. That is according to TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook, who reports Chelsea believe Garnacho’s numbers will earn £40m.

“Alejandro Garnacho, up for sale again. That’s been a disastrous move. They feel like they can get that money back because his data is good; it’s okay. His numbers are good in terms of chances created.”

Roma have shown interest in signing Garnacho on loan, but Chelsea are not entertaining any loan bids. The winger has a contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2033, having penned an eight-year deal.

Brad Friedel predicts what will happen with Alejandro Garnacho

There is optimism, and then there is delusion. Even if his numbers are good – chances created, XG, the successful dribbles etc – Chelsea have no chance of raking in £40m for Garnacho in the coming weeks.

Big clubs will be interested because clearly, there is a player in Garnacho. Paul Scholes thinks a move to Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone would be perfect for him, but Madrid are yet to show interest.

Why has Alejandro Garnacho been such an unpopular signing? 🤯

Responding to Crook’s comments, former Premier League goalkeeper Brad Friedel said what is much more realistic when it comes to Garnacho’s future. He predicts a loan to materialise late on in the window.

“No doubt he’ll get a loan to a very good club,” he said. Crook interjected: “They’re saying they won’t loan him.” Friedel continued: “Unless it comes down to the last couple of days of a window.”

No club is going to pay £40m for Garnacho, no matter what the stats. But they might pay a package that could reach £40m if he joins a team on loan and impresses. Roma could pursue a deal in that scenario.
