Chelsea have found it extremely difficult to sign a new centre-forward for their first team this summer.
For example, Chelsea watched Benjamin Sesko put pen to paper on a fresh contract at RB Leipzig, while Victor Osimhen’s release clause is proving to be too expensive.
However, it has been suggested that an Osimhen-Lukaku swap deal could be possible before the transfer window closes.
If that does not happen, though, it would not be a surprise to see the Blues make a fresh move for another No.9 who they have targeted.
But, as things stand, it looks like Chelsea and Enzo Maresca will be going into the new season with Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu as their first and second-choice strikers.

Why Chelsea want to sign Samu Omorodion so badly
Chelsea have already made one bid for Samu Omorodion, but they are yet to convince Atletico Madrid to sell him to them.
Omorodion is still only 20 and scored just eight La Liga goals while on loan at Alaves last season. Nevertheless, Chelsea remain very keen on him.
According to Mundo Deportivo, that is because Chelsea believe that Omorodion will go on to become “very important” in world football one day.
The Blues see potential in Omorodion, but Atletico clearly do as well. The same outlet claims that the Spanish club will not sell their centre-forward for less than €70m (£58.9m).
Who will start up front against Manchester City?
Chelsea are nowhere close to signing Omorodion or Osimhen, though some real progress with the latter could be made soon if Napoli really are opening up to the idea of doing a swap deal.
With the new Premier League season not far away now, then, it looks like Jackson will be getting the nod to start against Manchester City on August 18.
The Senegal international has been out with an ankle injury, but Jackson could feature against Real Madrid next Wednesday, which suggests he should be ready for the City game.
