£32m player is the biggest winner at Chelsea after crazy deadline day

Chelsea fans will not be forgetting this summer’s deadline day any time soon after everything that happened on it.

It was a really crazy one, with Chelsea managing to sign Jadon Sancho from Premier League rivals Manchester United but failing to land Victor Osimhen.

Their pursuit of the Napoli striker went to the wire, with Chelsea making a proposal to Osimhen late in the night.

In the end, the club were unsuccessful. Loads of supporters would have been disappointed, but there is one Chelsea player who should be delighted.

Nicolas Jackson can benefit from Chelsea’s deadline day failure

Osimhen was a key target for Chelsea for a large part of the summer transfer window. The club failed by not signing him or another striker on deadline day.

It is good news for Nicolas Jackson, though, who could have easily lost his place in Enzo Maresca‘s side had Chelsea signed Osimhen or Ivan Toney.

Toney was another target for Chelsea, but the former Brentford man ended up moving to Al-Ahli instead.

With neither Osimhen nor Toney coming in, Jackson is likely to remain as the Blues’ first-choice striker for the rest of the season.

Nicolas Jackson still has to be on his toes

Marc Guiu is the other recognised centre-forward in Chelsea’s squad. But at 18, it is hard to imagine him ousting Jackson out of the team.

Still, Jackson, who cost Chelsea £32m, cannot take it too easy at Stamford Bridge this term, especially with Maresca in charge.

The Italian has been absolutely ruthless since arriving at the club, getting rid of Raheem Sterling and booting Ben Chilwell out of the first team.

Maresca also has Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku, with both players able to play up front as well.

You can argue that Felix should start against Crystal Palace later after scoring against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend and missing the Servette game. But Jackson was also able to make an impact at Molineux and is a natural striker, unlike his teammate.

Whatever the case, Jackson came out of deadline day well. Instead of going up against Osimhen, he will be competing with an 18-year-old and players who are not recognised centre-forwards for the No.9 spot in Maresca’s team.
