Chelsea’s decision to sell ‘super fast’ attacker was shocking business, it could now cost the club millions

Following Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali’s takeover of Chelsea, some really bad decisions have been made at the club.

Right now, some will feel that signing Robert Sanchez is one of them. Chelsea fans have been criticising Sanchez this season, with the goalkeeper making several high-profile errors.

The club have also been slammed for not bringing in a more clinical striker than Nicolas Jackson, who started off the 2024/25 campaign well but has really struggled of late, netting just once in his last nine games.

However, one poor decision that has gone under the radar a bit is the sale of Callum Hudson-Odoi to Nottingham Forest.

Chelsea will have regrets about selling Callum Hudson-Odoi

Before the transfer market closes, Chelsea could end up signing Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United for £60m.

Garnacho is not a bad player and has a lot of potential. While some Blues fans may not be keen on him moving to Stamford Bridge, he could prove to be a good addition to the team.

Chelsea, though, had Hudson-Odoi on their books and allowed the winger to join Forest for less than £5m. His contract was running down, but the fact that Chelsea could now go and spend £60m on Garnacho makes it look like a really awful deal.

Hudson-Odoi actually outscored the United star in the Premier League last season, while they have the same number of goals this term.

Speaking about Hudson-Odoi and Nuno Tavares after one game during the 2023/24 campaign, Shay Given said on BBC Match of the Day: “They were super fast on the left side. Tavares is a really offensive full-back and he’s got this partnership going with Hudson-Odoi, who looks like he’s really enjoying his football at the moment. He’s back to where Chelsea fans think he should be.”

Chelsea could miss out on Champions League place to Nottingham Forest

Having found themselves in second at one point, Chelsea are now sixth in the Premier League table.

They are behind Forest, who sit in third, which means they could end up pipping the Blues to a Champions League spot.

Hudson-Odoi has helped them to get there with his few goal contributions this season, including a winning strike against Liverpool at Anfield back in September.

Chelsea really need Champions League qualification for the prize money and a good sponsorship deal, but their former player and Forest could now prevent them from obtaining those things.
