Enzo Maresca could have some big decisions to make when Chelsea take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.
Chelsea could be without Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia after Enzo Maresca confirmed in his pre-match press conference that the quartet missed Friday’s training session because of slight knocks.
Defence has become a bit of a problem area for the Blues boss, with Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile both out injured, while Axel Disasi could leave Chelsea this month.
With Colwill now possibly set to join Fofana and Badiashile on the sidelines, Maresca could have to start someone else in the left centre-back position for the Wolves game. Trevoh Chalobah is a candidate following his recall from Crystal Palace, but Renato Veiga could be another name worth considering.

Renato Veiga wants to play in central defence
Veiga has not played too many games in central defence in his career, but it has become clear that the 21-year-old sees his future there.
| Renato Veiga’s positions | Games played there |
| Defensive midfielder | 42 |
| Left-back | 18 |
| Centre-back | 15 |
| Central midfielder | 6 |
| Left midfielder | 1 |
Earlier this month, it was reported that Veiga was pushing to leave Chelsea so that he could play as a centre-back.
Clearly, Veiga felt that he had to depart Stamford Bridge to achieve that. But if Colwill is not fit enough to feature against Wolves, could the Portuguese get the opportunity to play at the centre at Chelsea?
Veiga is left-footed like Colwill and a good height, standing at 6’3″. Ultimately, he could potentially be a great alternative to the England international and should be in contention to start in that left-sided centre-back position if his teammate is unavailable for the game.

Renato Veiga could save Chelsea some money
Despite recalling Chalobah from Palace, it has been claimed that Chelsea remain in the market for a central defender.
However, if Maresca gives Veiga an opportunity at the centre of his backline and the Portugal international can prove himself there, then there may not be a need for the Blues to go out and spend money on a brand new centre-half.
Veiga is an option that Chelsea already have and while they still do, they may as well utilise him.
