There were multiple poor individual performances for Chelsea last night as they were soundly beaten by Manchester United.
2-1 was a generous result for the Blues, who were comfortably second best at Old Trafford for large portions of the 90 minutes.
There was an air of nervousness and shakiness from Mauricio Pochettino’s men, with them frequently turning the ball over in their own third under pressure from the United press.
A number of players can take responsibility for that, however a large portion of the blame from supporters can be thrown towards Robert Sanchez in goal.
The Spaniard was guilty of frequently giving the ball away in dangerous areas that brought great danger to his side.
While it was his actual shot stopping that saved the Blues from an even more embarrassing defeat, it wasn’t enough to convince everyone.
Pochettino should start Petrovic
In fact, saving a penalty in the opening minutes to spare the blushes of Enzo Fernandez was not enough to bail them out for too much longer.
It looked as if Chelsea fans could have been about to see the debut of 24-year-old summer signing Djordje Petrovic, with him warming up intensely at half-time and in the early stages of the second half.
There have been opportunities for him to feature in the League Cup so far, however Pochettino has chosen not to start him up to now.
However, after the notably poor performance from Sanchez, particularly with his feet, there should be an opportunity for Petrovic to stake his claim for the regular place in the team.
Right now, there are reportedly no plans for the club to sign a new goalkeeper, meaning they will need to find a solution with what they have already available.
