A lot of players who were on the fringes at Chelsea this season managed to get moves away from the club during the January transfer window.
For example, Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka and Axel Disasi all left Chelsea on deadline day, while Cesare Casadei sealed his exit just before.
However, not all of Chelsea’s fringe players departed, with the likes of Christopher Nkunku and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall staying at the club.
Dewsbury-Hall attracted interest from Everton and other Premier League sides, but in the end the midfielder remained with Enzo Maresca‘s group, which is good news.

Enzo Maresca may need to start using Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
Since arriving at Chelsea from Leicester City last summer, Dewsbury-Hall has only managed to make six appearances in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old has only made one start in the top flight, but with Romeo Lavia struggling to stay fit, Maresca may have to start calling upon him soon if he does not want to risk Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez burning out.
Dewsbury-Hall can be a very effective No.8 and proved that in the Championship last season. He has just not been given a chance in the current campaign.
| Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s last two seasons | League appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 2024/25 | 6 | 0 | 1 |
| 2023/24 | 44 | 12 | 14 |
If the Englishman does eventually get given an opportunity, then he could be like a new signing for Maresca.
Of course, the Premier League is a different animal compared to the Championship. But it is hard to make a real judgement on Dewsbury-Hall until he gets proper minutes in a Chelsea shirt.
It was claimed that Tottenham Hotspur were also interested in Dewsbury-Hall, so Disasi was not the only Chelsea player Spurs looked at during the January transfer window.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall a ‘wonderful’ footballer
While Dewsbury-Hall may have his doubters at Chelsea, with Maresca evidently one of them, Brendan Rodgers was a huge fan of the player when he managed him at Leicester.
Speaking about Dewsbury-Hall a few years ago, the current Celtic boss said (via BBC Sport): “He is a wonderful demonstration of someone who works very hard and he has proved that if you work hard the opportunities come your way.”
As of now, there is no denying that Dewsbury-Hall has pretty much been a flop for Chelsea. But there is still time for him to turn his career at Stamford Bridge around.
