Chelsea maintained their 100 per cent winning record in the Conference League group stages by recording a deserved away victory over Heidenheim in Germany.

Chelsea beat Bundesliga side Heidenheim by a 2-0 scoreline on Thursday evening. As a result, it’s now four wins from four in this season’s Conference League group stages for Enzo Maresca’s side.

The Blues missed a handful of glorious opportunities to win by a bigger margin, but eventually they netted twice during the second half.

Christopher Nkunku scored the opener in the 51st minute, which was his 11th of the campaign across all competitions. The 27-year-old attacker fired in a close-range effort into the top corner after showing great composure in the penalty box.

Afterwards, Mykhailo Mudryk made sure of the three points with his emphatic finish in the 86th minute.

Maresca claims Nkunku’s best position is as a No.10 despite the fact he’s played a lot of this year as a central striker. Well, he started in the No.10 role versus Heidenheim, showing plenty of great moments before being substituted off with 15 minutes to go.

Chelsea fans react to Christopher Nkunku’s display vs Heidenheim

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media agreed that Nkunku has to be pushing for more starts in the Premier League after another eye-catching contribution in Europe.

Here are Blues fans on X asking for their French forward to get a chance in the league:

@Bewhatyoubejr wrote: “Way too big for the Conference League. Nkunku needs to start in the Premier League!”

@LikeDennis_ posted: “Nkunku has done every thing to prove he deserves a start in the Premier League. Maybe it’s time.”

@VhalisaR said: “I find it criminal that Nkunku is not a regular starter. I’m on the agenda that he must start alongside Jackson and have Palmer on the wing.”

@Tungoiin shared: “Nkunku needs to start Vs Aston Villa.”

Nkunku isn’t too happy with his lack of Chelsea starts, but he’s not letting it impact his game when he gets the chance to play.

His main issue is that Cole Palmer plays in the No.10 position, while Nicolas Jackson is the No.9. It’s hard to argue that either player should be dropped from the Blues XI, but how much longer can Mareca keep ignoring Nkunku?

Christopher Nkunku means business in front of goal

There’s probably not a player in Chelsea’s squad with the same kind of quality and consistency in front of goal as Nkunku. Remarkably, he’s now hit 11 goals across all competitions.

Nkunku hasn’t asked to leave Chelsea despite the rumours, but a player of his calibre can’t be happy on the bench every weekend.

It goes to show the strength in depth at the club that the likes of Nkunku can’t force their way into the league XI at this moment in time.
