Pat Nevin says what Moises Caicedo is ‘brilliant’ at following West Ham win

Former Chelsea player Pat Nevin has been discussing what makes Moises Caicedo such a good midfielder.

Moises Caicedo played a pivotal role in Chelsea‘s 3-0 win against West Ham United on Saturday.

The 22-year-old assisted Nicolas Jackson’s second goal, but it was his defensive work that was outstanding.

According to Sofascore, Caicedo made eight tackles, which was the most in the game. Jason Cundy was happy with Caicedo’s performance at the London Stadium.

Moises Caicedo not Chelsea legend N’Golo Kante yet

Chelsea fans were comparing Caicedo to N’Golo Kante following his excellent display against West Ham.

Nevin does not believe that Caicedo is there yet; however, he does think that the Ecuadorian is “brilliant” at stopping counters and showed that in Saturday’s London derby.

On Caicedo, Nevin told talkSPORT: “He has started his game again. He wins things, he is hard to beat, he is not N’Golo Kante, but he is brilliant at killing any sort of quick breaks, yes, but any time there is a tight pass in the midfield, he is zipping in there as well.

“So all that sort of stuff that he is kind of good at, he is showing he is good at. He is not going to score 10 screamers from outside the box every year, you are not wanting that, you are not expecting that, you didn’t pay £100 million for that.”

Moises Caicedo terrific at stopping counter-attacks

Caicedo is a really good tackler and the numbers prove it. Right now, the Ecuador international is averaging 4.2 tackles per game in the Premier League (WhoScored).

To say Caicedo is capable of stopping breaks would be an understatement. He is excellent at doing it and just winning the ball back in general.

Chelsea supporters have probably not always seen that since his arrival at Stamford Bridge. That is understandable, as Caicedo has been playing with a lot of pressure because of his price tag.

However, the former Brighton & Hove Albion man has really thrived under Enzo Maresca this season. The above no longer appears to be an issue.

There are going to be harder tests than West Ham to come. Chelsea travel to Anfield towards the end of October to take on Liverpool.

Still, his display against West Ham should not be downplayed. The London Stadium has not been a happy hunting ground for Chelsea in recent years, but things went well for them there on Saturday, and Caicedo’s performance is partly why. The Stamford Bridge faithful will be hoping to see more of the same as the season progresses.
