Pundit thinks £100k-a-week Chelsea star is such a good passer after watching him in West Ham win

Chelsea’s attackers once again shone in their team’s 3-0 win against West Ham United, but one defender also caught the eye.

Nicolas Jackson scored a first-half brace for Chelsea before Cole Palmer netted right after the restart.

In Chelsea’s first away game in the Premier League this season, which came against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Jackson and Palmer also got their names on the scoresheet. Noni Madueke was the star of the show that day after grabbing a hat-trick, though, as the three points went back to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues’ attack is really clicking at the moment, but one pundit had praise for Levi Colwill during the West Ham game.

Lucy Ward praises Levi Colwill’s passing

Chelsea fans were impressed with Colwill’s passes in England’s 2-0 win against Finland over the international break.

And during his club’s victory over West Ham earlier, Lucy Ward also highlighted Colwill’s passing.

Commentating on the game for TNT Sports (21/09/2024 at 12:40), she said: “Colwill is such a good passer of the ball. I think we’ve seen that stand out this season.”

While it was a London derby, there were not really any heated moments. After one incident in pre-season, Enzo Maresca told Colwill to be careful of picking up silly yellow cards.

Levi Colwill perfect for Enzo Maresca

Despite not being a manager for long, Maresca arrived at Chelsea with a reputation of playing a possession-based game.

With that being the Italian’s style, Colwill is the perfect central defender because of his ability on the ball.

The £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) England international mostly played as a left-back under Mauricio Pochettino last season. But Maresca has fully utilised him as a centre-back so far this term and you would not expect that to change.

As for Chelsea’s other starting centre-half Wesley Fofana, Maresca will be glad to have him available. The Frenchman did not play a single minute of football during the 2023/24 campaign because of injury.

Fofana and Colwill have developed a good understanding on the pitch and look like they will be the Blues’ first-choice centre-back pairing this season if the former can stay fit.
