Nicolas Jackson got Chelsea off to a fine start in their London derby against West Ham United earlier.
It took Nicolas Jackson just four minutes to put Chelsea in front, with the striker calmly slotting past Alphonse Areola.
It was Jackson’s third goal in the Premier League this season before he grabbed his fourth not too shortly afterwards. And with that brace, the 23-year-old managed to surpass one former Chelsea forward’s top-flight record.
Before the game, John Obi Mikel wanted to see Jackson improve his finishing.

Nicolas Jackson surpasses Olivier Giroud record
Olivier Giroud was at Chelsea from 2018–2021. In that time, the 37-year-old made 75 appearances in the Premier League.
Across those appearances, Giroud only scored 17 goals, meaning that Jackson has now surpassed him after scoring his 17th and 18th goal against West Ham despite playing 36 games fewer.
Jackson was under a bit of pressure heading into the game, with Christopher Nkunku scoring the winner against Bournemouth last Saturday.
Right now, Jackson and Nkunku are the two main striker options at Chelsea. The Blues were interested in Victor Osimhen over the summer but failed to sign the Nigerian.
How many goals will Nicolas Jackson score this season?
Last term, Jackson scored 14 goals in the Premier League. Five games into the 2024/25 campaign, and the Senegal international is already on four.
If Enzo Maresca continues to start him, then he should be aiming for 20. In all competitions, Jackson should definitely get that.
The Blues have so many creative players, including Jadon Sancho, who got another assist at the London Stadium.
Jackson did most of the work for his first goal, but the point still stands. As well as Sancho, Maresca also has the likes of Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke to call upon.
Chelsea watched Viktor Gyokeres on Tuesday, and their scouts would have been impressed what with they saw after the Swede scored again. But if Jackson keeps scoring, then maybe he can convince the club not to buy a new centre-forward.
