Chelsea first team players have been hard at work already this week ahead of tonight’s big EFL Cup quarter-final against Newcastle United.

The Blues are looking for revenge at Stamford Bridge after they were embarrassed recently in the Premier League against tonight’s opponents, losing 4-1 at St. James’ Park in a game where Reece James was sent off.

This time though the Blues can put themselves just three games away from a trophy, which would be Mauricio Pochettino’s first in England.

The boss is likely to go as strong as possible when it comes to his team selection tonight, with him already commenting on whether one summer signing would be involved.

Christopher Nkunku is yet to be seen in a Chelsea shirt, although he was on the bench for the last Premier League game against Sheffield United.

However, second half goals from Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson saw him not needed off the bench in the latter stages.

The boss admitted he was likely to make his debut tonight, with him able to play about 20 minutes if needed.

The two have now been pictured on the official Chelsea website in deep conversation, perhaps regarding just how much impact he can have.

The Frenchman will likely be itching to get involved in a competitive atmosphere after enjoying a strong pre-season before he fell to injury.

Those issues have impacted a number of big-money players who have not actually been able to feature at all this season.

Fellow summer addition Romeo Lavia is also approaching being able to make his debut, with him falling foul of a problem just weeks after picking the Blues over Liverpool.

He will be keen to feature in the middle of the park for the first time and put some pressure on both Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo for their places in the starting XI.
