Ally McCoist has claimed he would be “very surprised” if Chelsea appoint Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager
Chelsea’s search for a new permanent manager continues to gather pace with plenty of speculation in the last few weeks.
Mauricio Pochettino, who’s a high-profile coach without a role right now, is a fresh name to be mentioned increasingly more recently.
The 51-year-old has been available since exiting as Paris Saint-Germain boss last year. Of course, English audiences know the Argentine very well from his spells in the Premier League with Tottenham and Southampton.

TalkSPORT pundit McCoist has now gone on record to say he can’t picture Pochettino ending up at Stamford Bridge.
“I would be surprised if Chelsea’s next manager is Pochettino,” McCoist told talkSPORT.
“I think he might have been interviewed and might have been a target, but I don’t think he’s their top target. I think they’ll still be looking at somebody like [Julian] Nagelsmann or maybe [Luis] Enrique.
“I understand him coming into the equation because he’s an excellent manager and an excellent coach. I would still be very surprised.”
However, this week’s rumours do point towards Pochettino being a very serious candidate.

The Independent reported today that Chelsea are quite impressed by Pochettino after holding further talks with him. In fact, they say he’s on a four-man shortlist to become the next manager.
There’s a lot to admire about what he’s done in his managerial career to date, especially his efforts at Spurs. Is he what the Chelsea board are looking for, though?
Elsewhere, The Telegraph says that Chelsea are set for more talks with Julian Nagelsmann about the manager’s job.
We, along with the rest of the Blues fanbase, hope it’s not long until the club make a final decision.
The sooner the decision is made, the longer the next manager will have to start planning for next season.
