Napoli manager Antonio Conte has shared his mood following Victor Osimhen’s failed move to Chelsea on deadline day.

Ideally, Antonio Conte and Napoli would have wanted Victor Osimhen gone. The Italian club signed Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea to replace the 25-year-old, who is on big wages.

However, he is now stuck at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, and Conte will not be able to use him after he was left out of the club’s Serie A squad.

Chelsea ended their pursuit of Osimhen late on deadline day, unable to agree personal terms with the Nigerian.

Antonio Conte on Victor Osimhen debacle

Conte is happy with Lukaku and the overall transfer business Napoli managed to do this summer.

However, while the Italian is pleased with what his club were able to accomplish in the market, he says selling Osimhen would have “completed the situation”.

“I’m happy with the work the club did on the market,” the former Chelsea manager said following Napoli’s 2-1 win against Parma on Saturday. “If there had been the sale of Victor Osimhen, we would have completed the situation.”

It was Osimhen who said no to Chelsea on the terms they were offering, so Napoli will feel that the Nigeria international only has himself to blame for the predicament he now finds himself in.

Not being registered for the current Serie A campaign, Osimhen is now at risk of not playing any football until January.

Victor Osimhen should have said yes to Chelsea

At Chelsea, Osimhen would not have been on the kind of money that he is clearly looking for.

However, the former Lille man would have found himself playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world and in arguably the best division in football.

Instead, he is now in a position where he is unlikely to play any minutes until the new year. The above sounds like the better option, but that is not on the table anymore.

As for Chelsea, it will be interesting to see if they go for a striker in January. It has been claimed that Chelsea were in for Jhon Duran on deadline day, so perhaps that is something that the club revisit in 2025.
