Chelsea have continued this summer with the mantra laid out under the new ownership since they came in.

For every signing that has been made that directly influences the first team, they have seemed to sign a player who will instead make their impact in the future.

The highlight addition up to now has been Estevao Willian, with him being described as a ‘generational’ talent.

They have looked to address a number of positions with signings with long-term ambitions, and are reportedly keen on making a goalkeeper their next signing.

They have been strongly linked with the signing of Mike Penders, despite the fact he has just a handful of minutes under his belt in top level football.

Mike Penders tipped as one of top youngsters in the world

Journalist Duncan Castles has claimed that he has been told the Blues could be bringing in one of the top young talents in the game.

He said to ‘The Transfers Podcast’: “Should flag up another of the many deals, I think they’re on 10 signings this summer so far that Chelsea have done, and that’s Mike Penders 19-year-old Belgium goalkeeper who they have acquired from Genk for 20 million euros.

“He’s played one senior game for Genk when they did the deal. He’s played two now. He’ll stay at Genk for the rest of the season.

“Two meters tall, trained by the same coaches as Thibaut Courtois. I’ve had him described to me as the next Thibaut Courtois. Interestingly, by one person whose judgment on football I trust implicitly as the best young goalkeeper in the world. I think Chelsea have done a good deal there.”

Slonina starring on loan at Barnsley

Chelsea did look to address the goalkeeper role early in Todd Boehly’s tenure at the club with the signing of Gabriel Slonina.

The United States international is currently on loan at Barnsley, where he has got off to the perfect start with back-to-back Player of the Match awards in his first two games.

It remains to be seen if he can force his way into the long-term thinking at Stamford Bridge, where the goalkeeper situation is anything but secure right now.
