Fabrizio Romano has claimed that some of the important figures at Chelsea have now spoken to Mauricio Pochettino about making one signing this month.
He told GiveMeSport that they have discussed the possibility of signing Jhon Duran in the final few days of the transfer window this month.
Duran emerged as a potential striker target for the Blues a number of days ago, as it became clear that his own club are not the biggest fans of him.
He has impressed in his limited appearances, with Gary Neville describing him as ‘lively’.
Despite finding the net on a couple of occasions in the Premier League, he has found himself picking up more yellow cards than goals in England.
Nevertheless, he certainly has his admirers at Chelsea, who are seemingly staring down the barrel of a transfer window where they don’t actually sign a player on a permanent deal.
Pochettino asked about Duran
That is something that is unheard of since Todd Boehly came in, with the American smashing their transfer record twice already.
Romano has now claimed that the manager, Pochettino, has been included in discussions about Duran up to now.
He said: “It was just an internal discussion between the directors, the owners and the managers to understand if Duran could be a good option, then he also got injured, so at the moment the situation is on complete standby.
“I’m sure that they are also discussing other possibilities but at the moment they have not opened any negotiations or other talks, so let’s see if in the final days, what they will decide to do.”
It does feel as if the Blues are ideally looking to get through this window without spending big on a striker.
This is likely because their number one target, Victor Osimhen, will be far easier to attain when the current campaign has come to an end, off the back of his new contract at Napoli.
