Chelsea man ‘thankful’ club’s owners haven’t got rid of him yet

There has been a lot of change at Chelsea since the club were taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

Players have come and gone at Chelsea, with that being the theme once again in the last transfer window.

The likes of Jadon Sancho, Joao Felix and Pedro Neto arrived, while Conor Gallagher and Romelu Lukaku left Stamford Bridge.

Gallagher already feels appreciated at Atletico Madrid and recently scored his first goal for them in a 3-0 win against Valencia.

Marcus Bettinelli happy he is still at Chelsea

One player who has survived all of the changes at Chelsea is goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.

Bettinelli has actually only ever played one game for the Blues despite arriving at the club in 2021, with the 32-year-old being the team’s third-choice shot-stopper.

However, he is still thankful that Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have not offloaded him.

Speaking to The Athletic, Bettinelli said: “When I joined the club as third choice ’keeper behind Kepa and Edouard Mendy at that time, I sort of knew my role and my responsibilities. I probably learnt a lot in that first year of doing it.

“The club has been through a change and I have been a part of it. I am thankful that I am still here.”

Despite not featuring under him yet, Bettinelli is enjoying working with Enzo Maresca at Cobham.

Who could Chelsea get rid of next?

While Bettinelli’s place in Chelsea’s squad may be safe for now, the same cannot be said about others.

Ben Chilwell is one player whom you would eventually expect Chelsea to get rid of. The left-back has only just returned to the first team and was not wanted by Maresca.

Mykhailo Mudryk also looks to be in a bit of danger right now. Chelsea are stacked in the wide positions after bringing in Sancho and Neto, while another summer signing, Felix, can also play on the left.

That is not good news for Mudryk, who could be sent out on loan in January. If that happens and his loan spell does not go well, then the next step would probably be to sell the 23-year-old.

All in all, there has been a lot of change at Chelsea under the club’s new owners, and it would not be a surprise if more was on the way.
