A tweet from nine years ago from Raheem Sterling has resurfaced following his confirmed move to Chelsea.

The Blues finally announced the England international as their first signing under Todd Boehly yesterday, with Sterling joining up with his new teammates for training.

The move has proved popular among the current crop of Chelsea stars, with Mason Mount expecting him to become a leader at Stamford Bridge.

It appears Sterling’s interest in the Blues is more long-standing then people realise, with the club highlighting a nine-year-old tweet from the forward regarding a Premier League fixture.

He tweeted “What channels Chelsea game on” back in 2013, with the Blues jokingly asking the 27-year-old if he still requires the information now.

The game in question was a league fixture between Chelsea and Aston Villa, which the Blues won 2-1 thanks to a Branislav Ivanovic header.

The game is notable for a rare Romelu Lukaku appearance in his first spell at Stamford Bridge, with the Belgian coming off the bench as Jose Mourinho’s side on the day chased a second win off the season.

Sterling has already begun pre-season training with the Blues, although it has been reported that he is unlikely to feature in the club’s first fixture of the US tour against Club America at the weekend.

However, it is likely it won’t be long until the England man is involved, with the attacker receiving guarantees from Thomas Tuchel that he is set to be a crucial part of the Chelsea attack in the coming season.

The 27-year-old will wait and see if he has another new attacker to work with, with the club establishing an interest in Serge Gnabry from Bayern Munich.

The pair would complement each other well in the frontline together, with them both becoming regular goalscorers in their respective leagues. With Chelsea’s lack of a regular contributor up front, the pair could excel at Stamford Bridge.
