There’s been some criticism of Chelsea this season for a lack of experience and leadership within their group, but one player is an important figure behind the scenes.
Blues manager Enzo Maresca has been trying to succeed this season with an extremely young Chelsea squad. While there’s clearly a lot of talent at Stamford Bridge after some huge investment, most individuals are still nowhere near their prime years.
Joe Cole’s passionate message to Chelsea’s owners is that they need to provide a squad with a mixture of youth and experience.
It’s been claimed in fresh reports that there is one figure in the dressing room who plays a key role.

Tosin Adarabioyo play a significant role at Chelsea, club wants to keep him
According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea sources cannot stress enough the influence of Tosin Adarabioyo internally.
Tosin, who’s a senior player at the age of 27, is deemed an important figure behind the scenes for the Blues.
The report explains that the central defender was stood up on the bench yelling tactical advice to his teammates during last weekend’s Premier League win over Everton. It is explained that Chelsea want to keep Tosin in the summer because he’s not one of the defensive profiles they’re looking to sell.
Even though Tosin hasn’t been a nailed-on starter during his debut season at the club, he’s still been an important player for Chelsea. He’s made 20 Premier League appearances this campaign, starting 13 times.
| Competition | Appearances (Starts) | Goals |
| Premier League | 20 (13) | 1 |
| Conference League | 8 (8) | 1 |
| Conference League qualifiers | 2 (2) | 0 |
| FA Cup | 2 (2) | 2 |
| Carabao Cup | 1 (1) | 0 |
Back in September, Enzo Maresca praised Tosin Adarabioyo by naming him as one of the “leaders” in Chelsea’s dressing room. It’s impressive to see the English centre-half arrive at a new club and instantly become a senior figure.
Tosin Adarabioyo is happy at Chelsea following his arrival last summer on a free transfer, which has turned out to be a shrewd bit of business from the club.

Chelsea young team needs more guidance
Hopefully, Chelsea’s recruitment team focus on adding one or two more senior figures to the squad for next season. We think it would go a long way to helping this young group take the next step.
The statistics highlight just how much younger the Chelsea squad is compared to everyone else in the Premier League this season.
