Given the magnitude of signings Chelsea have made over the past few seasons, it is clear that some were going to struggle to make an impact with the first team.
Player turnover is still exceptionally high for the Blues, with the likes of Noni Madueke, Joao Felix and Djordje Petrovic departing in a record-breaking summer transfer window.
When a player is out of the plans at Stamford Bridge, it is very difficult to return to the forefront of the club, or the manager’s, thinking.
Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi are nowhere to be seen on matchdays despite their combined transfer fee of around £90m.

Forgotten Chelsea man Deivid Washington set for Chelsea academy reintegration
Another player some will have even forgotten is part of the Chelsea squad is Deivid Washington. He has not featured since Mauricio Pochettino was in charge.
Chelsea asked for Washington to be recalled from his loan at Santos, where he was not featuring as regularly as the Blues would have liked.
As reported by the Kieran Gill, the current plan is not for the youngster to be included in first team activities, with him instead set to feature for the youth sides at Cobham.
He said to the Mail Online: “Deivid Washington has been away with Brazil at the Under 20s World Cup, where they suffered an early exit at the weekend having failed to win any of their group games against Morocco, Mexico and Spain.
“I understand the plan now is for Washington, still only 20 years old, to join up with Chelsea’s development side. So, no, he has not fallen into the abyss.
“The midfielder has struggled for minutes since joining from Santos in 2023, playing only three times for his new club.”

Washington suffers international embarrassment
The youngster has enjoyed international success in the past. Washington outshone Kendry Paez in a meeting between youth sides of Brazil and Ecuador.
However, the U20 World Cup did not go to plan with Brazil’s early exit from a competition Chelsea are scouting hard.
It was reported that Sunderland were interested in Washington after it emerged that they would be losing Marc Guiu from his loan spell there this season.
The Blues decided to bring the Spaniard back to West London after Liam Delap’s hamstring injury, with Nicolas Jackson departing late in the window for Bayern Munich.
