Sunderland set their sights on signing forgotten Chelsea player after Marc Guiu

Sunderland have completed a loan move for Chelsea striker Marc Guiu, but there’s another youngster they may want to swoop in for.

Both Marc Guiu and Chelsea will be happy with this loan move. The 19-year-old has had some bright moments since joining the Blues from FC Barcelona, and despite the litany of striker options at Enzo Maresca’s disposal, Guiu is a player for the future and not one that needed to be moved on permanently.

Some Chelsea fans are sceptical about the deal, given the amount of competition Guiu will face at Sunderland.

But it’s a far cry from the situation at Chelsea, with the additions of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro making entry into the first-team picture nearly impossible.

Sunderland are not done with their interest in the Chelsea squad, with recent reports indicating an interest in another Chelsea attacker.

Sunderland are also interested in Chelsea winger Deivid Washington

According to the Daily Mail, Sunderland have held an interest in Deivid Washington even before the Guiu move was made.

Chelsea signed Washington from Santos for £17m in 2023, but things haven’t quite worked out for the Brazilian.

While he showed some promise in a Blues shirt, including bagging a brace and an assist in an U21s game against Norwich, Washington went back out on loan to his boyhood club last season. Now, Chelsea may look to recoup some of what they spent on the now 20-year-old.

With all the options Chelsea have in attacking areas, with potential additions of Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho still a possibility, there unfortunately looks to be no room for Washington in the squad, making this a viable move for all parties.

More attacking talent will leave Chelsea this window

The reality of football finance in 2025 is that in order to make additions, you must be prepared to lose something. That’s certainly the case for Chelsea’s forward line.

While the incomings tend to be more exciting, outgoings can be more difficult to navigate.

In what’s left of the window, it looks like Chelsea will move on from Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja.

Tyrique George has also been linked with a move away, though a loan move would be best in the case of the English youngster.

The next month will be busy for the Blues, with new faces through the door and familiar ones going the other way. That being said, Enzo Maresca and the players will be will be focused on starting the season in the best possible way, leaving the business for Chelsea execs to handle.
