Chelsea’s stance on Djordje Petrovic as loanee goalkeeper records fifth clean sheet in a row with ‘important’ performance

Chelsea were given yet another reminder of the brilliance of one of the players they let leave on loan this season.

Djordje Petrovic has been in brilliant form this season at BlueCo owned Strasbourg, where the Blues have been able to keep a close eye on his performances.

This has been the same story for one of their most promising youngsters, with Andrey Santos set for first team football next season.

Petrovic didn’t concede a goal in February, and continued that fine run of form with a clean sheet against Auxerre, as the Ligue 1 side moved up to seventh in the table.

Djordje Petrovic could be Chelsea’s number two goalkeeper next season

Manager Liam Rosenior was full of praise for his goalkeeper after the game, describing him as a ‘very important’ player.

The Serbian was allowed to leave the club as it was felt Petrovic didn’t suit Enzo Maresca’s style, however it is clear that his passing stats have improved this season.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t seem as if he has done enough yet to convince the higher ups at Stamford Bridge that he should be the number one next season.

However, he may well still be part of the Chelsea squad. Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has told The Chelsea Chronicle that Petrovic could be the number two next season, with him likely competing with Robert Sanchez for that position.

There has been plenty of criticism coming Sanchez’s way this season after he has put in a number of notable poor performances.

Filip Jorgensen was handed the gloves recently in the Premier League, and he will have been delighted to pick up a clean sheet against Southampton in their last Premier League game.

Enzo Maresca wants new goalkeeper at Chelsea

The Chelsea boss has looked to defend his goalkeepers where he can this season, however is no doubt frustrated at the mistakes that have cost his side so many points.

This has led to Maresca demanding Chelsea sign a goalkeeper this summer, a position many supporters have felt they needed to add to properly for a few transfer windows now.

The Blues are linked to Gregor Kobel from Borussia Dortmund, who would bring big-game experience that is desperately lacking in the first team squad.

There are a number of younger goalkeepers who have been linked with a move too. Zion Suzuki is admired by Chelsea after his excellent campaign so far between the sticks at Parma.
