Supporters of Championship side Huddersfield Town took to social media this weekend before their game had even got underway.

They took on promotion-chasing West Brom, and were heavily defeated despite taking the lead at home.

There was a lot of anger at the club that they had not started Chelsea loanee Alex Matos, who is there until the end of the season.

Matos had really impressed many at Stamford Bridge in his early stages, and this was seemingly echoed by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine commented on this on a number of occasions in the early stages of this season, and rewarded his promise as much with some appearances for the club.

He went on loan in January, and immediately showed fans of Huddersfield exactly what he was capable of.

This is perhaps why a number of users of Twitter took to the platform to share their discontent that he hadn’t been handed a start yesterday.

In replies to the club announcing the starting side, one user said: “Hogg starting and Matos benched. I’m starting to lose faith.”

Another added: “What does matos have to do to start?”

A third said: “Oh dear its starting to look like he hasn’t a clue starting hogg and not matos and 1 up front who can’t hold the ball up and it’s the biggest must win game of the season.”

It remains to be seen if a strong end to the season for the youngster will be enough for him to become a more regular fixture in the first team at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino has insisted he has been unable to rest central midfield pairing Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo due to a lack of options at the club.

Considering Matos was pushing the fringes of the first team before being loaned out, he could well have seen his minutes increase at Stamford Bridge if he had stayed.
