David Ornstein makes claim about what Chelsea could do with Mauricio Pochettino’s future

Chelsea are unlikely to review the position of Mauricio Pochettino at the club at least until the summer.

That is according to well-respected journalist David Ornstein.

Mauricio Pochettino, 51, is now several months into his reign as Chelsea’s head coach after arriving before the start of the season.

Unfortunately, the Argentine boss is still seeking to find any kind of consistency at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues sit 10th in the Premier League table right now with just five wins from 15 games so far. Admittedly, there’s a Carabao Cup quarter-final to look forward to later this month.

David Ornstein, who’s a top journalist for The Athletic, has offered some words on Pochettino’s situation at Chelsea.

He claims that the 51-year-old’s likely to get to the end of the campaign before there’s talk in the hierarchy about his position in the manager’s dugout.

Ornstein told The Athletic: “I don’t know of Pochettino’s position being in doubt at all – to the contrary, the Chelsea hierarchy will want to be building into the future with him – but everyone knows this is a results industry and I’d expect them to review how he is doing in the summer, which will be a year into a two-year contract with a club option of a further 12 months.”

Journalist Paul Brown recently told GiveMeSport that talk behind the scenes at Chelsea is the club plan to stick it out with Pochettino.

It’s worth adding that he only signed a two-year deal when he arrived in the summer of 2023.

Speaking via The Obi One Podcast recently, Gianfranco Zola described Pochettino as the “perfect” coach for this Chelsea project at this moment in time.

We expected another inconsistent season due to the ridiculously young and inexperienced group of players. However, Pochettino shouldn’t be immune from criticism for some of the odd tactical decisions that he’s beginning to make.
