Enzo Maresca finally speaks out following Liverpool win as Chelsea boss gives response to red card

Enzo Maresca has finally given his verdict on Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Liverpool over the weekend.

After being sent off for wildly celebrating Estevao Willian’s winning goal, Maresca was banned from doing any of his media duties after the full-time whistle.

Willy Caballero took his place instead and discussed many topics, including the fitness of goalscorer Moises Caicedo.

Caballero revealed that Caicedo has been in pain, so the Blues are having to watch the midfielder carefully.

Enzo Maresca disappointed to miss out on Chelsea celebrations

As you would expect, Maresca was delighted with the result. Chelsea were able to beat the Premier League champions and were never behind in the game.

Caicedo scored the opener and then Cody Gakpo equalised before Estevao netted the winner.

However, Maresca has described missing out on the celebrations at full-time as a “shame” on his Instagram.

“Winning at the last moment was a beautiful joy for all of us,” Maresca posted. “It was a shame not to be present at the final whistle to celebrate with our wonderful fans. Now recover energy and focus on what we can do better.”

Ill-discipline has been a real issue for Chelsea this season, with Maresca not the only person to have seen red.

Joao Pedro, Trevoh Chalobah and Robert Sanchez have all been dismissed in recent games.

Chalobah’s and Sanchez’s red cards really cost the Blues, who went on to lose the two matches in which they lost the centre-back and goalkeeper.

Maresca was still one winner from Chelsea’s latest victory after getting all of his substitutions right.

Jamie Carragher fumes at Enzo Maresca’s punishment

Jamie Carragher has spoken about Chelsea a lot following their win against his former side Liverpool.

For example, Carragher discussed Caicedo after his excellent performance, claiming that Declan Rice is still a better midfielder than the Ecuadorian.

Carragher also gave his thoughts on Maresca’s punishment following his red card, not agreeing with his ban from speaking to the media.

“I loved the manager’s celebration,” the Liverpool legend said. “I loved him running down there. I can’t believe he can’t come in front of the cameras afterwards, that’s just ridiculous. You wanna hear from him.”

Maresca will just be glad that Chelsea were able to take all three points, especially after losing back-to-back games to Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United. Chelsea fans will now be expecting the same outcome when the team face Nottingham Forest after the international break.
