Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has the opportunity this weekend versus West Ham to do something his predecessor only achieved once.
Chelsea are back in Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to the London Stadium to face the Hammers. Hopefully, the Blues can repeat their last meeting with West Ham, which was when they thrashed them 5-0 at Stamford Bridge back in May.
Enzo Maresca is still adjusting to his role as Chelsea’s head coach after he took charge from Mauricio Pochettino in the summer.
Some of Chelsea’s senior players felt Pochettino would’ve succeeded if he had stayed, but he ended up leaving by mutual consent after only one season in charge. Now, he’s taken up the position as the United States manager.

Enzo Maresca can match Mauricio Pochettino record
Even at this early stage of the season, Maresca actually has the chance to match one of Pochettino’s records at Chelsea.
During his one year at Stamford Bridge, Pochettino’s team really struggled away from home. Chelsea only collected 26 points from their 19 Premier League away fixtures last season, winning just seven times.
The longest winning away streak in the league from Chelsea under Pochettino was three games, which they did in 2023 when they beat Fulham, Burnley and Tottenham in succession.
Interestingly, Maresca’s side will be attempting to make it three wins in a row away from home this Saturday at West Ham. This comes after beating Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers in their two away games so far this season.
If the Blues can improve on the road and make Stamford Bridge a fortress, they’ll have the recipe to enjoy a very strong season.
It’s been claimed by ESPN that Maresca has a soft target of getting Chelsea a top-four finish, something they’ll be a lot closer to with strong away form.
Enzo Maresca has track record
If you look at Leicester City’s title-winning campaign in the Championship last year, there’s no doubt that their away form played a massive role. Now, Maresca will hope to enjoy the same kind of success with Chelsea that he did with the Foxes.
Here is a look at Leicester’s away results in the Championship last season under Maresca:
| Games played | Won | Draw | Loss | Points |
| 23 | 14 | 3 | 6 | 45 |
From a Chelsea perspective, they’ve got an abundance of pace to hit teams on the counter-attack. We suspect they’ll try to dominate football matches when visiting other stadiums, though.
