Enzo Maresca has adopted a ruthless approach at Chelsea, which has seen some players even train away from the first team, and he’s now told a player to improve in his pre-Brighton press conference.

The Chelsea boss has really knuckled down at Stamford Bridge after the international break, and the results are starting to reflect his hard work.

Chelsea have gone from a side who look vulnerable defensively and can’t finish their chances, to a side that now look ruthless in the final third and assured at the back.

One player who has played a big part on the defensive end is Marc Cucurella, who Maresca has stated is making the players around him better this season.

Nicolas Jackson is another player who has been transformed and is even surprising Craig Burley after a really poor season last time round.

However, in order for the levels to stay as they are, Maresca is starting to be more ruthless with his players which was evident in his pre-Brighton press conference.

Enzo Maresca warns ‘fantastic’ Chelsea player that he can do better

A lot of Chelsea players have seen improvements under Enzo Maresca in recent times.

However, like any good manager would, he’s starting to demand more from his players.

One player who was fantastic last time out in the Premier League is Moises Caicedo, the unsung hero during Chelsea’s win over West Ham.

When speaking in his press conference ahead of Brighton (as per Football London), Maresca was quick to praise the midfielder but stated that he can improve from here.

“He is top player. He is very good but as all the top players, he can improve things and for sure he can improve. The way he is playing in this moment is fantastic.

“About the price, it is not Moi’s problems. It is the market that sometimes decides the price. Most of the time because clubs pay a lot of money for players, we expect that kind of player will be always the best but it is not like this.

“Moi has to enjoy, to play, and to work hard, but the most important thing is for him to be happy and enjoy football – and don’t think about these types of things because it is not his problem.

“If a club pays for a player, it is because the club decide, it’s not because the player asks to pay this amount. It’s an agreement between the clubs.

“For a player in this case, just enjoy playing football. Moi does that very well and that is the most important thing.”

Moises Caicedo’s season to date for Chelsea

Moises Caicedo was always going to come under criticism at some point in his Chelsea career after joining for £100 million.

The midfielder had a season to forget after joining last year as he was rash in possession, looked vulnerable in defence and couldn’t string a pass together at times.

However, Caicedo, who is on £150k-a-week, has been a standout performer for the Blues in the current campaign.

Alan Shearer even claimed that Caicedo is starting to find his best form in a Chelsea shirt, but it’s important he now carries this through with him for the rest of the season.
