The compliments continue to flood in for Chelsea’s Cole Palmer following his latest exploits.

Cole Palmer helped Chelsea to beat Newcastle United 2-1 on Sunday after scoring his side’s second goal.

The attacking midfielder was also involved in the Blues’ opener after his exquisite pass found Pedro Neto, who then went on to square the ball to Nicolas Jackson.

Alan Smith couldn’t believe the quality of Palmer’s pass, which he described as “one of the passes of the season”.

Nedum Onuoha compares Cole Palmer to Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne is one of the best players the Premier League has ever seen.

The midfielder is also one of Palmer’s former teammates, and Nedum Onuoha has now compared the two.

Speaking about Palmer on ESPN FC, the retired defender said: “He’s somebody who… in my opinion, the way he wants to have an impact in terms of goals and assists, it feels like a De Bruyne.”

Like De Bruyne, though he scores plenty of goals, Palmer is also a playmaker. However, Palmer has admitted that his long passing wasn’t great against Newcastle.

Cole Palmer could have replaced Kevin De Bruyne

Palmer could have been the perfect heir to De Bruyne at City. The Belgian is now 33 and his contract expires next summer.

The Premier League champions will be thinking about successors when they already had the ideal one in Palmer.

Of course, Pep Guardiola and the club probably did not envision Palmer exploding in the manner that he has.

If they knew that he was capable of coming up with 40 goal contributions last season, then chances are they never would have sold him.

It is a shame if you are a City supporter, but Chelsea fans will be delighted that the England international is plying his trade at Stamford Bridge.

There, he has become one of the best players in the division and is helping the Blues to fight for Champion League qualification again under Enzo Maresca.

Top of the table right now, though, Guardiola and his side are just getting on with things.
