Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has been discussing the potential swap deal that could happen involving Jadon Sancho and Raheem Sterling.
Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho is admired at Chelsea, while the Blues are trying to get rid of Raheem Sterling before Friday’s transfer deadline.
A swap deal has now been mooted, though Chelsea‘s priority, at present, seems to be signing a centre-forward.
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Brentford’s Ivan Toney have been heavily linked to Enzo Maresca‘s side this week.

Jason Cundy says who would be getting the better deal out of Chelsea and Manchester United
Sancho and Sterling have both had their difficulties at United and Chelsea respectively. Sancho left Old Trafford halfway through last season after a fall-out with Erik ten Hag, while Sterling was only able to score eight league goals.
You would have expected more from a £50m forward who scored goals for fun at Manchester City.
Cundy, though, thinks United would be the real winners if Chelsea do decide to swap Sterling for Sancho.
“Both players are in the same position,” Cundy said on talkSPORT (27/08/2024 at 16:56). “They have both got time on their contract, both huge earners. I can’t quite work out where Jadon Sancho fits in at Chelsea. Honestly, I can’t work it out.”
When asked who would be getting the better deal, the pundit added: “I think United do. I have said to you before. I have never ever ever come away from a Jadon Sancho performance either in an England or in a Man United shirt, I have seen him play well for Dortmund in the Champions League, but I have never seen him play and gone, ‘Wow, there’s the player, there he is.'”
It has been alleged that Sancho doesn’t trust Ten Hag and vice versa, so that relationship looks to be dead, if it were not already.
Chelsea could actually end up being the real winners of Jadon Sancho and Raheem Sterling swap
In the long run, this possible swap deal will probably work out better for Chelsea. Sterling turns 30 this year and is on huge money.
If Chelsea can get rid of the England international and his wages and replace him with someone who is younger and still has a lot of potential, then they will be the real winners.
If Sterling rediscovers his City form at United, that will change things. But given how he has performed at Stamford Bridge, that is a really big if.
Paul Merson doesn’t think Chelsea should ditch Sterling, but his move to west London has simply not worked out. Now is a good time to let him go, especially if they can get Sancho in return. The Blues will have to get a move on, though, with journalist Fabrice Hawkins claiming on X that Juventus now have an agreement in place with United to sign Sancho.
