For former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp, it is easy to identify the best player in this Chelsea team.

Chelsea have brought in a lot of quality players over the last few transfer windows.

However, Harry Redknapp has criticised their recruitment in a recent column for The Sun and has claimed that after all of the spending that they have done, Thiago Silva is still their best asset.

Silva is now 39 years of age and actually cost Chelsea nothing after he joined from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer back in 2020.

Thiago Silva Chelsea’s best player

According to Redknapp, Silva is the star at Stamford Bridge right now.

In his column for The Sun, he said: “Chelsea have spent a fortune in recent years but they haven’t spent it well. Silva is still their best player and he is nearly 40!”

Who else is in the conversation for best player at Stamford Bridge?

Silva may very well be the best footballer Mauricio Pochettino has available to him.

At 39, the Brazilian is still going strong, recently becoming Chelsea’s oldest goalscorer after his header against Manchester City over the weekend.

Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills recently described him as “magnificent” and it really is not hard to see why.

Still, Chelsea do have some other top players. Reece James is an absolute monster on the right-hand side, for example, while Cole Palmer is looking like the real deal at the moment.

It has not been hard for the 21-year-old to settle in at Chelsea following his move from Manchester City in the summer.

In 11 appearances for his new club, Palmer has eight goal contributions. Half of those have been penalties, but the attacker is making an impact, nonetheless.

All in all, Silva may indeed be Chelsea’s best player at present, but that is more to do with the fact that he is just an exceptional defender rather than the Blues having a squad of bad footballers.
