Chelsea took a chance on deadline day of the summer transfer window with the signing of Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho.

As the winger’s rift with Erik ten Hag became too much of a stumbling block to make it at Old Trafford, and the Blues took the chance that they could see the best of him for a cheap transfer fee.

Sancho really impressed Enzo Maresca early on in his time at Stamford Bridge, with him quickly establishing himself as a key member of the attack.

However, things have not been going so well of late, and a lack of goals and assists has become a real worry.

Chelsea have chance to opt out of Jadon Sancho deal

Sancho is frustrated by the fact he hasn’t scored in his last 16 games now, and even after winning a penalty in their last game against Leicester, couldn’t help contribute to a goal.

This was because Cole Palmer missed a spot kick for the first time in his senior career, as his own tough run of form shows no sign of getting any easier.

It is expected that Sancho’s move to Chelsea is made permanent at the end of the season, with him currently only being on loan from United.

It was stated that if the Blues finished higher than 14th then they would need to trigger the obligation, although it seems as if there is another option if Chelsea decide they don’t want to go through with the deal.

According to MailPlus, they can decide not to sign the England international, and instead pay what is described as a ‘significant’ penalty to back out of the pre-arranged deal.

Chelsea’s thoughts on Sancho

After initially being very impressed by their acquisition, Chelsea seem to be having second thoughts about the role Sancho can have in West London.

Blue chiefs are not impressed by Sancho and expected more from him, and therefore are still looking at signing other wingers this summer.

One name who continues to be mentioned is Rafael Leao, who AC Milan are not as insistent on keeping in comparison to before

Of course, Chelsea will be welcoming highly-touted youngster Estevao Willian to their ranks this summer. The Brazil international is expected to be a first team star as soon as next season.
